This is the strangest story that’s happened to me in a while! Let me start with the present: A couple of months ago, Dad decided that he wanted to digitalize all of our negative films that we’ve had since we were little up until the early 2000s when we switched to digital cameras. Now for those of you that know me and the considerable amounts of pictures I take, I get it all from Dad. He’s the picture pro and he’s taken tons of pictures of us in the past…
Today, after about a month since his decision, we had developed films from the year 2000. In the summer of that year, we had traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa. It was the best vacation of my life and I’ll never forget the awesome experiences we had, and thanks to Dad and his professional camera, we got it all on film. I remember while we were there, we were so excited to see the pictures that we had taken so we decided to get them developed in one of the local photo shops, and they turned out to be just as great as we’d expected…
Flash forward eleven years since then, to when we had gotten them all digitalized on CD. We were just watching a slideshow preview of the pictures, when a South African couple showed up. “Who are they?” we all asked in union. Turns out we've got about 50 pictures of a South African couple and their wedding!
Trying to piece the puzzle together, we guessed that the shop where we had gotten the pictures developed had accidentally switched our negatives with theirs and we ended up taking the right photos with the wrong negatives and never even knew it until today! It’s not that big of a problem to us but I felt bad for the couple. These were two complete films of their wedding day, and by the looks of it, it didn't seem like they had a professional photographer or anyone else to be taking their photos that day and all they had were these exclusive shots for their big day. And they were with us and we have no idea who they are! :-(
I know it’s a long shot, but if by any chance that couple or friends or relatives of this couple find this post and their pictures, we can DHL them over. This is their wedding, I don’t know what I’d do if pictures of my wedding got lost with another person from another country, let alone another continent! I wish, by some lucky chance, something or someone will lead them to this post to get in contact with me. Because in the end, pictures mean the world… :-)
I think you should mention the name & address of the studio who developed the photos. It's a long shot to know the married couple, but perhaps if ur father still remembers the location. It will make it a lot easier to get in touch with them.
ReplyDeleteI guess they would sure remember the couple whose wedding photos r lost.
11 years ago.. Wow!
Nope, I already asked and he doesn't remember where he developed them... after all, it was 11 years ago and I guess this is my best chance... :-)
ReplyDeleteThat really does suck. I hope they find them.. even if by a long shot!
ReplyDeleteI shared it - hope you can get it to them ;) Facebook groups work too - try that out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Guys! I hope so too! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat you should do is start a Facebook page about this subject. It will spread out like wildfire! And I am sure at the end of the day you will find those people! I will handle the matter if you wish! It would be a nice experiment for me!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea Fady! If you want go ahead :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a cool story. Would make a wonderful article; the search for that wedding couple. Good one. And Fadi, I will sign up for that Facebook page

Ok here's what I think. The stopry is very nice BUT you mentioned that you got teir negatives with your right pictures which means that teh couple DID probably get their wedding pictures, just not the negatives and since most ppl never even use their negatives (unless they wane enlarge a picture or re-print pics) its probable that this couple doesn't even know that they have the wrong neatives :) So, don't get too upset cause the couple did get their pics :)
